Preservation funding is cut which means the government wont be funding important programs like Preserve America. I feel the need to say that again-preservation funding is cut.
The most common reaction from those not in the field and/or those that think preservation has to do with preserving food or old photographs is, so what? Well you see history is vulnerable and frail, sometimes it’s enough for a group to cease talking about an event for that history to die.
In the interest of not boring the shit out of the handful of readers I’ll merely say the preservation of historic sites and neighborhoods is so much more than just preserving a certain event or a place; these cultural sites revitalize communities and are a key alternative to the homogenized sprawl going on these days-also they create jobs, enrich neighborhoods, teach and inform, support local businesses, and I’m hoping I’ve made my point.
Time to get my gear on put up a fight and write a few letters.
